Patience...By Maria Jasmine
Recently, I was asked to share what I’ve been practicing in my life, and naturally, I felt drawn to talk about something that’s been a big challenge for me: patience.
According to Google, patience is defined as “the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset.” And honestly? That’s not always easy for me!
I’m not always zen, despite my love for yoga and meditation. In fact, I struggle with impatience, especially when it comes to:
Waiting in line at the supermarket.
Sitting in traffic (I’m looking at you, long commutes!)
Mastering that one tricky yoga pose (hello, headstands!)
I’ve got this habit of always wanting to move, to get to the next thing as quickly as possible—whether it’s finishing a class, completing a task, or working towards a big goal. And sometimes, I’m so focused on the finish line that I forget to appreciate the journey.

STOP & BREATHE FOR A MOMENT
What if we really learned to enjoy the process before reaching our destination?
What if we could be fully present, right here and now?
For me, yoga has been my daily reminder to slow down. It’s in those long-held yin poses, the mindful breathing, and the quiet moments between movements where I find my patience.
When my mind starts racing, I tell myself,
"Everything is happening as it should, at the perfect time.
Just breathe, and enjoy the ride."
I've realised that patience opens the door to presence. When I let go of the rush and accept where I am, I become more aware of what’s right in front of me.
For instance, if I’m stuck in traffic, instead of fuming, I take a few deep breaths and just sit with the stillness. After a few moments, I start noticing things I usually miss—maybe a cute cat lounging in a window, or just the way the sunlight hits the trees.
We have the opportunity to connect with the present moment with every breath we take. Some days it’s easy, and others, not so much. But the more we practice patience, the easier it becomes to tap into that calm, grounded energy of the present moment.
Here are a few of my favoUrite ways to reclaim patience when life gets a little overwhelming:
Take 3 - 6 deep, slow breaths.
Roll out your yoga mat.
Spend time in nature.
Meditate (even if it’s just for five minutes).
Repeat this mantra: "Everything is unfolding exactly as it should."
Remember, patience is a practice, just like yoga or meditation. The more we nurture it, the more we’ll find peace in the pauses.
